Boxing is a world of change and evolution. The score boards keep changing like the notification boards at an airport. There are a number of categories in boxing based on boxer weights and they all have their own rankings.
In this blog post, we will look at the best boxers of all the categories to commemorate their efforts and excellence. So, buckle up your boxing gloves and get ready for the stars to shine.
Current Boxing Rankings:
Here are the current boxing rankings with respect to their categories:
Heavyweight- Tyson Fury:
Tyson Luke Fury is a professional boxer from the United Kingdom. He is indeed a two-time world heavyweight champion, previously secured the WBC and The Ring magazine belts since defeating Deontay Wilder in 2020; earlier, after defeating Wladimir Klitschko in 2015, he held the unified WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, IBO, and The Ring crowns.
With his victory against Wilder, Fury then became third heavyweight to carry The Ring magazine championship twice, following Floyd Patterson and Muhammad Ali, and is largely regarded as the lineal heavyweight champion by media publications.
ESPN, the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board (TBRB), and BoxRec all rate Fury as the top active heavyweight in the world as of November 2021. BoxRec ranks him third best current fighter pound for pound, ESPN fourth, and the TBRB and the Boxing Writers Association of America seventh.
Fury represented both England and Ireland as an amateur, having been born in Manchester to an Irish Traveler family. Fury’s ancestors are from Belfast and Galway, and his parents immigrated to England when he was a child. In 2008, he won the ABA super-heavyweight title before going pro later that year at the age of 20.
Light HeavyWeight- Callum Smith:
Callum John Smith (born April 23, 1990) is a professional boxer from the United Kingdom. From 2018 until December 2020, he won the WBA (Super) and Ring magazine super-middleweight titles, as well as the British and European super-middleweight titles at the regional level. He received the Muhammad Ali Trophy after winning the World Boxing Super Series super-middleweight event in 2018.
He is the world’s top active light-heavyweight, according to BoxRec, and the 10th best by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board and the Ring magazine, and also the eighth-best active fighter, pound for pound, according to BoxRec, as of October 2021. He is the youngest of the three brothers who are also accomplished boxers.
Super Middleweight- Canelo Álvarez:
Canelo Alvarez is undoubtedly the most famous boxer on the planet. Since the age of 15, he has been a professional boxer. He has won world titles in four weight divisions, including his most recent encounter in November, when he jumped two weight classes and took out Sergey Kovalev in the eleventh round to claim the WBO light heavyweight championship.
Alvarez inked a five-year, eleven-fight contract with the sports streaming platform DAZN in October 2018, for at least $365 million. At the time, it was the largest sports agreement ever made.
Alvarez’s contract outperformed Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s six-fight, 30-month pact with Showtime, which included a $200 million guarantee, however Mayweather made more money from the PPV income produced by the arrangement.
At middleweight, Alvarez held three of the four main world titles. Instead of attempting to become the undisputed 160-pound title, Alvarez took the risk of making even more history by fighting WBO light boxing champion Sergey Kovalev.
For the better part of a decade, Kovalev had ruled the 175-pound division, but his best days were behind him. Kovalev outperformed expectations by executing the jab flawlessly and putting Alvarez on the ropes.
After knocking out Kovalev becoming a four-division world champion, Alvarez’s power proved it could have an impact 15 pounds over his typical fighting weight.
We just hope anyone who faces him has good quality boxing gloves and other boxing equipment to keep them safe at least.
LightWeight- Gervonta Davis:
He is a professional boxer from the United States. He has won world titles in three weight classes: the WBA (Regular) lightweight title since 2019, the WBA (Regular) super lightweight title during June and December 2021, the IBF super featherweight title in 2017, and the WBA (Super) super featherweight championship title between 2018 and August 2021.
He is currently listed as the top active lightweight in the world by BoxRec, 3rd by ESPN, fourth by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board, and 5th by The Ring magazine as of February 2022. Davis, who is known for his extraordinary striking power, has a 93 percent knockout-to-win record.
Featherweight- Emanuel Navarrete:
“The Mexican’ Iron Man’ of boxing,” as Emanuel Navarrete calls himself, is always on the go. Indeed, he is all about fighting and looking for a method to get inside the octagon.
We don’t know what else to call it if it isn’t a passion! The Transnational Boxing Rankings Board now ranks Navarrete as the third-best active junior featherweight. Since October 2020, he has also been ranked as the world’s second-best active featherweight by BoxRec.
Not to mention the fact that Navarrete is a two-weight world champion. The WBO featherweight and WBO junior featherweight titles, according to reports, are among them.
